Ontario Place is the name of the seasonal and entertainment Waterfront Park built in Toronto, Ontario. This park is managed as an agency of Ontario’s Tourism and Culture Ministry. It first opened in May of 1971 and has three artificially made and landscaped islands. Numerous attractions are distributed all over the park and there are also some walking trails as well as drink and food concessions. Central to the compound is the public marina and the concert theatre.
Ontario Place covers 96 acres for great family fun and adventure. Children of every age will definitely enjoy the 30 thrilling rides and attractions like Froster Soak City, Bumper Boats, F/X Adventure Theatre, Free Fall, mini golf, Wilderness Adventure Ride, Wild World of Weather plus so much more.
Cinesphere features a variety of entertaining films throughout the day. The Treehouse Stage entertains toddlers with live performances by different characters such as Barney, Angelina Ballerina, Thomas the Engine and Bob the Builder. For older guests, they can enjoy some first rate entertainment at the Molson Amphitheatre. In addition, Ontario Place is an excellent place for families to enjoy several special summer events like the fireworks celebrations, the Canadian Intl Air Show and the Caribana.
As recently as 2011, Ontario Place underwent an intensive period of renewal and renovation. More than $10,000,000 was spent on the park for its improvement and for the better enjoyment of its guests. Soak City, Ontario’s first ever waterpark, got an outdoor “spa pool”, an additional “family” water slide as well as a waterfall in addition to more than 100 meters of landscaped public promenades and beach. The improvements considerably increased the waterpark’s capacity and novelty. Soak City’s new slide, the Topsy Turvy, was acclaimed as “The Best New Waterslide” in 2010 by the IAAPA.
Cinesphere, the first IMAX theatre in the whole world, also got a renovation. The previous projection system was swapped for a more modern IMAX 3D technology. As a result, Cinesphere now has the biggest 3D theatre in the whole Canada and second biggest in the entire North America. New seats, sound systems, interiors, and concession areas were also added.
A new addition is the Eco-Learning, an enjoyable and educational “edutainment” attraction. The displays were kindly provided by several organisations – World Wildlife Fund, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Humane Society, Parks Canada, and Ministry of Natural Resources.
